HRV recently bolstered its Nondestructive Testing (NDT) capabilities and expertise with the addition of Shawn Barrett (AWS CWI, ANST NDT Level III), as NDT Supervisor. Recognized throughout the QA inspection industry as a premiere provider of NDT quality inspection, Shawn will oversee NDT-specific projects and apply his expertise directly toward adding value for our clients’ QA inspection needs.
NDT validates the integrity of materials, processes, and components using advanced testing methods and practices. NDT does not permanently alter the article being inspected, resulting in highly valuable techniques that save both money and time in production evaluation, troubleshooting, and research. Our team is skilled in alternative methods of testing such as:
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Penetrant Testing (PT)
Our commitment to training our NDT Technicians plays a major role in the reliability of the inspections. The HRV NDT Certification of Personnel Program is in accordance with Recommended Practice SNT-TC-1A. Our internal NDT training program leverages the bodies of knowledge as outlined in ANSI/ASNT CP-105.

The inspection work performed by the NDT technician is by far mostly of the practical nature. It is therefore our focus that emphasis be placed on the practical application of the test method during training.
Classroom training hours as recommended by SNT-TC-1A states the minimum training hours for each recognized testing method as industry standard. HRV believes meeting the minimum requirements is essential. However, the hours actually needed vary based on the complexity of the subject matter and the testing technology being utilized.
Knowledge of Codes and Standards:
HRV qualified NDT technicians through training and examination demonstrate the in-depth knowledge of the applicable codes and standards.

- Review fabricators NDT qualifications.
- Review fabricators NDT procedures.
- Monitor and witness the actual NDT testing process and results.
- Review NDT test reports for accuracy.
- Effectively communicate NDT testing results with the owner and consistent bases.
